NEW MUSICAL THEATER FORMAT!

We took note of recent survey responses and listened to students and parents and designed a new curriculum that builds on skills, ideas, & concepts while learning age and skill level appropriate songs, scripts, and movement or choreography that gets incrementally more challenging.

Level 1: Do Re Mi  Ages 5-7
60 minutes for six weeks.

In this beginner class we will begin to learn about singing in a group with some fun expression that will help us explore the meaning of the song.

Level 2: Singing Storytellers Ages 6-8
60 minutes for six weeks. (Can be taken directly following Step 1 in the same term.)

Every song is a story and we are so excited to put our storytelling skills into action by singing, dancing, and acting.

Level 3: We Got the Beat Ages 7-10
90 minutes for ten weeks.

In this class we will continue to bring stories alive through song and dance as well as add individual character work in a scene from Disney and Broadway shows.

Level 4: Story of My Life Ages 8-12
90 minutes for ten weeks.

This class continues the fun storytelling and begins to add the “ever after” aspect as well as adding more scene work, introducing harmony, and creating multiple characters from Disney and Broadway shows. We will work on audition protocol, using movement/dance to express character and relationships, enunciation, and further exploring voices based on our character choices.

Level 5: This Is Me Ages 10-14
90 minutes for twelve weeks.

This class continues to build on the concepts and skills of previous levels and adds specific Broadway dance steps and vocal styles. We will also help the young artist to begin to create their own Performer’s Toolbox of skills through exploring which warm-ups, focus activities, memorization tricks, character analysis, and vocal & dance techniques are serving them best as they form new characters while trusting their instincts and making bold choices.

Level 6: I’ve Got A Dream Ages 11-15
90 minutes for twelve weeks.

Level Six is a continuation of level five as we continue to understand who we are individually and collectively as performers and artists. The scene and song work includes more advanced solos and characters and complex blocking and Broadway dance from classic and modern Broadway shows and films.

Level 7: Triple Threat Ages 13-17
90 minutes for twelve weeks.

This class culminates all of the skills and knowledge from previous levels of Musical Theater classes. We will focus on audition skills for various kinds of auditions, character development, honoring the ensemble, solo work, multiple song and dance styles, and trusting our instincts while working on becoming Triple Threats (singing, dancing, and acting simultaneously).

Homeschool Musical Theater Ages 8-16 (younger with permission)
90 minutes for twelve weeks.

This course combines singing, dancing, and acting. An acting class taken prior to this class is helpful, though not required. Musical theater students will explore how to interpret and connect to the lyrics in a song and the words in the scenes to tell the story.
